alveoli

The alveoli are where the lungs and the blood exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide during the process of breathing in and breathing out.
Example: When you are sick, your ALVEOLI are full of liquid called mucus. This is why you feel the need to cough, to push the mucus outside of your alveoli.

cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

Life-saving procedure used when the heart has stopped beating and the patient has stopped breathing. It employs hand pressure on the chest to circulate blood and breathing into the patient’s mouth to introduce air into the lungs.
Example: I saw a man faint on the street today. Few moments later, strangers began a CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION on him. They were doing fast compressions on his chest to keep his heart from dying.

An electronic device that measures the saturation of oxygen carried in your red blood cells. Pulse oximeters can be attached to your fingers, forehead, nose, foot, ears or toes.

A device used to measure blood pressure, composed of an inflatable cuff to collapse and then release the artery under the cuff in a controlled manner, and a mercury or aneroid manometer to measure the pressure. Example: When you eat junk food on a regular basis, your chance to develop ATHEROSCLEROSIS are higher than an individual who has healthy eating habits.
